TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bumi Manusia (This Earth of Mankind) novel by Pramoedya Ananta Toer will be adapted into a movie. The filming process will be started in July and will be directed by Hanung Bramantyo.

1. Sidoarjo
One of the interesting places described in Bumi Manusia is Nyai Ontosoroh’s hometown which is located in Tulungan, Sidoarjo, East Java. It is located about 4 kilometers southwest of Sidoarjo or 30 kilometers from City of Surabaya. Sidoarjo was a part of The Surabaya Residential. under the policy of Dutch Governor General Van Den Bosch. At that time, Sidoarjo region including Tulangan began to plant sugarcane and advanced sugar mills.
2. Wonokromo
In the novel, Pramoedya illustrated Wonokromo as the place where Herman Mellema and Nyai Ontosoroh live. Wonokromo is located in Surabaya, East Java. It is where Surabaya’s famous statue Suro and Boyo was placed and become one of the most favorite tourist destinations in Surabaya.
3. Hoogere Burger School (HBS), Surabaya
Pramoedya narrated Minke, the main character, attended a school named Hoogere Burger School (HBS) in Surabaya. This school, during the Dutch colonial period, is only for the Europeans, aristocratic or prominent indigenous leaders' sons. This school has also been the school of Indonesia's first President, Soekarno, when he was studying with H.O.S. Tjokromaninoto in Kampung Peneleh.
4. Blora
In Bumi Manusia novel, Minke is the son of Regent B (Pramoedya only write it as the B alphabet and never state the place). It is most likely interpreted as Blora. Blora is located in the Central Java and it is also the birthplace of the author, Pramoedya Ananta Toer.
