TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is investigating allegations of campaign violations by the National Mandate Party (PAN) and Hanura. Both political parties are suspected of campaigning outside the given schedule.
Bawaslu chairman Abhan said here on Thursday that they are looking into the violation found in East Java, which is the discovery of PAN's advertisement.
PAN was discovered to have put up an ad at Jawa Pos newspaper on April 24. The day before, the Indonesian Solidarity Party Partai Solidaritas Indonesia (PSI) also put up their ad in the same newspaper.
Meanwhile, Hanura set up its advertisement on an online media two weeks ago.
The official period for political parties' campaign starts on September 23, 2018, for 21 days.
"In principle, we are not discriminating anyone in the investigation," Abhan said.
He added that if the parties are proven to have violated campaigning rules, the involved persons are punishable to a year of jail sentence and a fine of Rp12 million.
