TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta mass rapid transit developer MRT Jakarta and ride-hailing app company GoJek Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) related to the study of the development study of mobile payment and non-farebox business.
"The main idea is to create a digital ecosystem in Jakarta, which is the beginning and should be continued to become a reality of strengthening the use of public transportation in Jakarta," MRT Jakarta President Director William Sabandar in a press conference at the MRT Jakarta office on Tuesday, May 22.
William said that MRT Jakarta wanted to learn from GoJek in relation to the business application and digital payment system. Although it is relatively new, GoJek has experiences in operating the application and maximizing the financial technology (fintech) through Go-Pay.

Meanwhile, MRT Jakarta will prepare a public transportation route along 16 kilometers that starts from Lebak Bulus to Hotel Indonesia roundabout. "We will provide the routes and modes of public transportation that upgrade Jakarta and we will open partnerships as widely as possible, not just with GoJek,” William said.
On the same occasion, the President of Go-Jek Indonesia Andre Soelistyo said his office sees the technological innovation as an opportunity to reach more engagement from the society.
"The collaboration between MRT Jakarta and application-based on-demand companies such as Go-Jek will make it easier for the people of Jakarta and its surrounding areas in doing their activities," he explained, as it is in accordance with the vision and mission of the company, which is to create a more effective and efficient community system.
