TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives' (DPR) Special Committee for the Anti-terrorism Law Team is meeting with the government in Jakarta today, May 23. The meeting is to discuss the definition of terrorism today
Muhammad Syafii, chairman of the special committee, said there a phrase that the team believes to be necessary to be included in defining terrorism, but the government has not included it in their presentation.

"The phrases "motive or political purpose" and "threat to the national security" are not summarized in the definition presented by the government," Syafii said before the meeting began.
Syafii hopes the drafting team and the government can find a common ground that adheres to "the logics of law". Because, he said, those phrases are what distinguish ordinary crime from acts of terrorism.

If the legal logic can be agreed upon, Syafii said that today's meeting will run very short.
The government is pressed to finalize the law revision following a series of terror attacks, from the Mako Brimob riot to the church bombings in Surabaya.
