Garuda Indonesia Conducts Screening to all Pilots over Terrorism

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Operational Director of state airline Garuda Indonesia, Triyanto Moeharsono, said the company had disabled pilot who uploading a terrorism content on social media.
“I have released notice to pilot,” he said in Ministry of Maritime Affairs Office on Tuesday, May 22.
Notice to pilot is an official letter to all the Garuda pilots to not upload any terrorism and radicalism content. “We announced the notice result before screening the pilots,” said Triyanto.
Triyanto also said he would carry out an examination to all the Garuda pilots. As for the concerned pilot, he said that the company can yet fire him since the investigation is still underway.
“We can’t just fire [him], we must look over his mistake,” he said.
One of Garuda pilots on last week wrote a status on social media about terrorism. After it uploaded, Hengki Heriandono as Vice President Corporate Secretary of Garuda Indonesia, made sure that the pilot was dealt in accordance with company policy. An action will be taken if there was indication related to deviant behavior or ethical violations.
Regarding this, Garuda Indonesia apologized for any inconvenience caused by the social media post. Garuda always appealed to their employees to put forward ethic and prudential principal in every social media activity, especially when related to ethnic, racial, and intergroup issues.
The national airline expressed their commitment and support to all parties in the effort to fight terrorism. If an employee is indicated to be involved in such activity, the company would give a strict punishment.
Garuda Indonesia also regularly conducted a periodic examination on employees as well as pilots and cabin crews, especially those related to Garuda Indonesia’s commitment in the flight operational safety.
