TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The Communication and Information Ministry has blocked thousands of websites and social media accounts it deemed spreading radicalism.
“We had blocked 2,528 [websites and social media accounts] until last night, and we are still verifying another 9,500. Probably there are 3,000 that we have blocked till today,” said Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara on the sidelines of the National Awakening Day ceremony at Yogyakarta Northern Townsquare on Monday, May 21, 2018.

Rudiantara said his ministry had continued to block such websites and accounts in light of the recent series of terror attacks in the country in a bid to tackle the spread of radicalism.
“We focus on cyberspace, because the police are taking care of those in the real world,” he said.
He explained half of the blocked accounts and websites were of Facebook and Instagram, followed by YouTube.
