"The authorities in Indonesia have made a remarkable effort to ensure the success of the event and we will continue to communicate," Rice said. The IMF also expressed its sympathy and condolences to families who became victims of the terrorist bombings in Surabaya.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati earlier said the preparation for the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting would continue despite the suicide bombings in Surabaya. She explained that the current security-related coordination has been done between the government, police, and military so that the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting in Bali would not be affected by the terror attacks.
Sri Mulyani will also continue to coordinate with the organizing committee in the US so that the meeting, which was attended by 15,000 participants from various countries, can run well.
"Terrorist attacks also occur in various countries. They will definitely investigate the type of attack, threats, and ways to mitigate them," she added.
