TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Com. Yoyon Tony Surya Putra announced that police have released the two men that were detained for suspiciously taking pictures of several police personnel when the city was in its highest security alert.
“Yes, we have released them,” said Yoyon in a text message to Tempo today.
Both men with the initials SS (37) and SP (24) were taken to police headquarters to be questioned, but police decided to let them go after the questioning session found that there were no suspicious acts conducted by the men.
SS and SP were initially detained after both men, who are online motorcycle taxi drivers, had taken pictures of six police personnel who had just finished lunch at a street-side restaurant in Matraman.
One of the police personnel who was in the group, Second Agent Detha decided to confront both SS and SP to ask what their intentions were.
“After we checked, their smartphone gallery had five pictures of the police members,” said Jakarta Metro Police Spokesman Comm. Argo Yuwono on May 14. The pictures were sent to another unknown individual.
This was what police found suspicious and decided to take both men to the East Jakarta Metro Police station to ask further questions.
