Ramadan; Jokowi Hopes Fasting Can Avoid People from Vile Deeds

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi wishes all Muslims who perform fasting this year a Ramadan Mubarak.

“Fasting to achieve piety and abstain from vile and evil deeds,” wrote Jokowi in his official Twitter account @jokowi, Thursday, May 17.

Jokowi hopes to be able to perform more solemn worships in welcoming the Ramadan this year. He also hopes the fasting can improve the piety and keeps us away from negative deeds.

Some followers welcomed the President's post and responded with similar remarks. For example, an account @fanzzfakuy wrote “Marhaban Yaa Ramadan, Pak, I hope you are always healthy to be able to lead this beloved country.”

On the previous evening, Jokowi performed the first tarawih prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque, Central Jakarta. He also expressed his appreciation of the lecture given by the Great Imam Nasaruddin Umar through twitter.

“That was my first Tarawih Prayer in this Ramadan at the Istiqlal Mosque, Professor Dr. Nasaruddin Umar's lecture was a very good a lesson for us. He reminded us to be careful to not exchange the glory of Ramadan for the temporary benefit -Jkw,” Jokowi tweeted.
