Riau Police Arrest 33 Suspected Terrorists

TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Short after the terrorist attacks in Surabaya and Riau, Indonesian National Police Deputy Chief Comm. Gen. Syafruddin said that police have managed to arrest 33 people that are allegedly involved in terrorist cell groups.

“The total number of people we arrested is 33 people,” said Syafruddin on Wednesday, May 16.

Syafruddin explained that the police made arrests throughout regions such as East Java, West Java, South Sumatra, and Riau. Meanwhile, four terrorists that attacked the Riau police headquarters were shot dead whereas seven other suspected terrorists involved in the attack were arrested in Dumai.

Syafruddin said that members of the public must stay calm and not panic following the series of terrorist attacks during the past nine days.

“I must also remind our law enforcers to be more professional upon serving and protecting the people,” he said.

As previously reported, a terrorist attack took place at the Riau Police Headquarters on Wednesday, May 16. Four of the suspects were shot dead while two policemen sustained injuries and one police member was killed after being struck by the terrorist’s vehicle.
