One Suspected Terrorist of Riau Police Attack Escapes

TEMPO.COPekanbaru - One of five suspected terrorists had managed to escape after attacking Riau Police Headquarters, Pekanbaru, Riau on Wednesday, May 16. Four other suspects have been shot down by the police.

“The suspect who ran away is the driver,” said Riau Police spokesperson Adj. Sr. Comr. Sunarto today, May 16.

Sunarto stated the attack occurred right after the police held a press release upon foiling a drug transaction involving 29 kilograms of crystal meth in Indragiri Hilir. The release was planned to be held at 09:00 local times.

However, a white Avanza crashed into the entrance of the HQ from Jl. Jenderal Sudirman. The passengers then came out of the car attacking the police using a sword.

The chaos erupted. The police directly shot down four suspected terrorists. Two officers sustained injuries. One officer, Insp. Auzar passed away due to the breaking, while two journalist from TVOne and MNCTV were also injured.

The situations in Riau Police HQ are now being conducive and under tight security.

The police have not been able to ensure the terrorist network that attacked Riau Police Headquarters. "We're still investigating it," Sunarto said.
