TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police shot dead four unidentified men who launched an attack at the Riau Police Headquarters in Pekanbaru this morning. The shooting was carried out after the men broke in to the headquarters and attacked the officers on duty.
"We were forced to shoot them because their actions were very threatening," Riau Police spokesman AKBP Sunarto told on Wednesday, May 16.

Sunarto said the incident occurred at 08:30 local time. A white Avanza crashed into the entrance before four men with sharp weapons got out of the car and attacked officers.
Sunarto said two officers were injured during the attack and are now being treated.

Sunarto said the police are examining the car and the bodies of the attackers, to ensure whether or not they had explosives. The attackers identities are also being investigated.
Sunarto said he could not say for sure whether the attackers are linked to a terrorist network.
