TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia confirmed that the security measures provided for the 2018 Asian Games and the 2018 Asian Para Games is consistent with international standards as commissioned by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC).

“I have requested the INASGOC and INAPGOC to notify OCA and APC that Indonesia’s situation is under control and safe,” said Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Imam Nahrawi today, May 15.

The minister admits that several participant countries have received limited information regarding the current situation following the Surabaya suicide bombings, which drove several countries to issue a travel notice.

“We notified all athlete and members of the public that INASGOC and INAPGOC have agreed to continue with and not postpone the event following several cases of terrorism,” said the Minister.

The Ministry is optimistic that the act of terrorism in Surabaya will not affect the support from sponsors of the 2018 Asian Games. “Sponsors are excited to face the Asian Games,” said Imam Nahrawi.

Furthermore, the Minister explained that the Asian Games venues are located far from where the attacks took place.
