TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police Chief Idham Aziz has instructed that the capital city is on high alert status (Alert 1) to maintain security in the metropolitan city. Police have increased the security on a number of vital objects.

The National Armed Forces (TNI) also participated to help the police to conduct supervision. The TNI deployed its Military District Command 0501/Central Jakarta (Central Jakarta Kodim) and the Mechanical Infantry Brigade 1 of the Capital Security/Jaya Sakti.

“Yes, this is part of the security after the Alert 1 status,” said Central Jakarta Kodim's Head of Operational Affairs Sucita Sesko Wardana on Tuesday, May 15.

National Police Chief Tito Karnavian has directly requested the TNI Commander Hadi Tjahjanto for the TNI to assist the anti-terrorism security.

The request is regulated in Law No. 34 of 2014, saying that the TNI could be involved in assisting police operations. Even so, the security command remains in the hands of the police.

Jakarta's Alert 1 status issued by Idham via telegram on Sunday, May 13. It was issued following a series of suicide bomb attacks in Surabaya, East Java.
