Act Against Terrorists, `Suroboyo Wani` Echoed in Tugu Pahlawan

TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - The terrorist act of bombing in three churches in Surabaya was responded by the City of Hero residents, by holding the candle-holding event.

Hundreds of residents held candle-holding togetherness event named ‘Suroboyo Wani’ (Surabaya Brave) in Tugu Pahlawan, Surabaya, Sunday night, May 13.

“Do not ever sleep tightly, O terrorists, we burn our hearts, we burn our spirits. Fight the terrorists, they are the garbage of this country,” said the coordinator of the action, Kusnan, during the oration at Tugu Pahlawan.

The action was followed by a number of elements of society in Surabaya, from the representatives of GP Ansor Surabaya, interfaith community, until the supporters of Persebaya, Bonekmania.

In addition to the yells, the participants lit the candles simultaneously as a sign of grief over the death toll of Surabaya residents who became the victims of the bombing in three churches.

The three churches are the Church of Immaculate Santa Maria (SMTB) on Jalan Ngagel, GKI Jalan Diponegoro, and GPPS Jalan Arjuna. The terrorist act of bombing killed 13 people and injured 41 others.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Surabaya GP Ansor Faridz Afif admitted he concerned about the barbaric acts committed by terrorists.

“It's all start from radicalism, we must fight together, do not disturb the city with their reds. We make green Surabaya with peace and comfort," he said during his speech.

According to him, Surabaya cannot be disturbed by terrorist acts, as it happens today.

“People of Surabaya will fight against the terrorist groups, if today they fight, we must fight, this is the character of Surabaya. If not dare, do not claim as people of Surabaya,” he said.
