TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said the month of Ramadan will bring a lot of benefits for the street vendor (PKL), especially in Tanah Abang.
Sandi wants the arrangement for PKL in Tanah Abang area to be dynamic and not be a disturbance for the public because the Jakartans will come there to find various needs in the fasting month of Ramadan until Eid Day or lebaran.
“I assign the Chief of SMEs and mayors to keep continue the arrangement dynamically; not statically. Later, the PKL will be directed and not allowed to occupy [the streets], [this] will ease the road users, especially the pedestrian,” said Sandiaga on May 12.

According to the deputy governor, towards the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan, Tanah Abang will be the center of economic activity in the capital. Therefore, he also wants to create job opportunity in this area.
“The other economic sectors are still staggering, the job field is not created yet. That’s why we create jobs through Tanah Abang,” said Sandiaga.
Sandiaga explains about current trademark system of the street vendor in the form of 'pop up market' is hindering people who want to pass the road. In the future, he said, the street vendor would not need to offer their product by blocking and pursuing the people passing by but with a certain display.
“Later, we will see no more pop up, everything is dynamic with particular approaches; unlike the current state which is static,” Sandiaga Uno concluded.
