TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of the police's Mobile Brigade (Brimob) who was attacked by an unknown man at the Brimob headquarters (Mako Brimob) died after sustaining stab wounds on Friday, May 11. The fallen policeman was Marhum Frenje, National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto said today.

According to Setyo, Marhum was securing the areas around the Mako Brimob detention center after a riot broke out in the premises. The policeman was observing a suspicious man that had been monitoring the Mako Brimob for two hours.

Marhum then requested backup from two other Brimob officers, first brigadier (Briptu) Gustri Uce and Briptu Rahmat Muin, before apprehending the suspicious man. During their investigation, the man, who identified himself as Tendi Sumarno, had his bag checked by police officers and no weapon was found.

The Brimob personnel then took Tendi to an interrogation room in the office. While walking to that room at around 02:29 a.m., Tendi suddenly ran towards Marhum, who was walking in front of him and stabbed Marhum’s abdomen with a knife concealed in the suspect’s private area.
