TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Amien Rais stated during 20 years of reform, Indonesia successfully realized many development agenda as expected.
Amien explained the goals of reform could be seen from four aspects.
The first is the decentralization of authority compared to New Order era. It is marked by regional autonomy so that district, city and provincial governments able to freely develop their respective regions.

“Now, the roads, buildings, schools, and other infrastructures are built in more advanced compared to earlier centralized administration,” said the former chairman of People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) while attending an Islamic teaching to welcoming Ramadan Yogyakarta, Thursday evening, Mei 10.
The second goal, Amien said, is the success in restoring the function of Indonesian Military (then-ABRI or now-TNI) that has a duty for defense and National Police (Polri) that has duty on the security.
"In the past, there was a dual function when TNI-Polri could get 20 percent of parliament seats without taking part in general elections; both in the central parliament of level I and II," he said.

The third goal is the press freedom. "It's (the freedom of the press) even almost optimal, which sometimes it likely exceeds," says Amien, a witness of the history of reform.
Amien went on to say it is fortunate that the community is equal to each other post the New Order fall. So there is no longer a group of people who feel superior to others.
"Now the public equal to their leader and can supervise them, while in the past, it was the leader who oversees the society," Amien Rais said, adding that such condition had led to various movements such as the emergence of extreme right groups, extreme left group, until the mysterious shooting.
