Former Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) chief Gatot Nurmantyo.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) Denny JA researcher, Ardian Sopa said that Gerindra Party, National Awakening Party (PKB), and Democratic Party can improve their electability if any of the political parties back Gatot Nurmantyo as a presidential candidate in the 2019 election.

“If the parties associate themselves with a strong presidential candidate, they will definitely increase the party’s electability,” said Ardian at his office today, May 8.

Based on a poll result, Ardian said that Gerindra backing Gatot Nurmantyo will result in its electability rising from 14.7 percent to 19.8 percent just from Gatot’s voters alone.

The number was revealed after the pollster conducted a study involving 1,200 respondents across Indonesia which were asked with one question: 'If Party X supports Gatot as a presidential candidate, which political party will you choose in the 2019 legislative election?'

Meanwhile, the multistage random sampling suggests that Democratic Party’s electability will improve to 16.5 percent and PKB will skyrocket its electability to 15.8 percent from the current 6.2 percent if either supports Gatot Nurmantyo.
