Post-mining Area in Yogyakarta Proposed as Geoheritage Site

TEMPO.CO, Kulon Progo - The Culture Agency of Kulon Progo, Special Region Yogyakarta (DIY) has proposed the post-mining area in Kliripan, Hargorejo Village to be listed as the geo-heritage site as to promote it as a cultural tourism destination.
The agency official Fitri Atiningsih in Kulon Progo today, April 28, stated the 8,800-hectare manganese mining area will later have two legal standing in the management, as a natural heritage and geo-heritage.

According to her, the post-mining area is potential to be a tourist destination considering the area could be an educational site which could also boost the local economy.
Fitri Atiningsih pinned hopes that the locals could take a further step before the government by looking for ancient relics or minerals as an initial effort in developing the site.
Meanwhile, the Proposal Team of Geoheritage Yogyakarta member Jatmika Setiawan claimed the team is currently drafting the proposal. He mentioned, there are at least nine locations that are suggested to be the geo-heritage sites to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
