TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti expressed her gratitude to National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian for his officers` efforts in seizing a boat loaded 50 tons of potassium nitrate used for fish bombing.

“Yesterday I texted Pak Tito to extend my gratefulness,” said Susi in her office, Friday, April 27.

The joint force of Selayar Island Police and Selayar Water Police probe a Malaysian-flagged ship in the southern waters of Selayar or 50 miles from Benteng Port in the southern Selayar Island on Thursday, April 26.

The ship KLM Eka Putri GT. 62 No. 649/LLN boarded 2,400 sacks or 50 tons of bomb material ammonium nitrate in the ship hatch. “The ministry is extremely thankful because the impact [of the fish bombing] is terrible. They aimed to catch fishes but they also damaged the reef,” said Susi.

Since last year, Minister Susi has offered an interesting reward for Vannamei shrimp farmer in Kolaka district if they able to catch and report five fish bombers to the police considering the case likely occur in Kolaka waters.

Minister Susi Pudjiastuti infuriated on the fish bombing. She explained the bombing might damage the sea ecosystem as well as the coral reefs which are both essential for the fishery business.
