TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry stated the tariff of the online motorcycle taxi or known as online ojek at Rp4000 per kilometer is impossible to set. However, the ministry’s general director of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi said the applicator has agreed to improve the drivers’ income.
“In my opinion, it’s impossible to set the fare up to Rp4000 because the fare of online taxi itself is around Rp3850-6000 per kilometer. They [online ojek driver] understand that, so it’s changed to be around Rp3250-3500 per km,” said Budi in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 24.
According to him, the decrease of the drivers’ income could be caused by the increasing number of people who joined to be the online ojek driver. “This is because oversupply, compared to the demand that remains stagnant,” said Budi, adding that the applicator should establish moratorium regarding the recruitment of the driver, either online ojek or taxi.
As reported earlier, online ojek drivers held a protest on Monday, April 23, demanding the parliament and the government to issue a legal standing for their existence. They requested a legal platform and online ojek as public transportation, the tariff increase Rp3000-4000 per kilometer that subsidized from application service providers, and the protection of law and justice for online ojek drivers as part of the country’s independent worker.
