The People`s Festivals from Tangerang to Pematang Siantar

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism industry has been developed over the years. Many traditional events such as local festivals were established to attract more tourists. Here are several new local festivals to which tourists may interested.

1. Pesta Rakyat Pematang Siantar  (People`s Festival of Pematang Siantar)

The regional government of Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra has established one-week people’s festival on April 23-28 as to commemorate the 147th city anniversary this year in Lapangan Haji Adam Malik, Lapangan Merdeka and tourism parking area near the central city.

The Mayor Hefriansyah inaugurated the event dubbed Festival Semarak Budaya Siantar in Lapangan Haji Adam Malik on Monday, April 23. TheIn the festival, hundreds of students joined various matches of traditional games. In addition, the festival features the art enthusiast who perform local folklore and musical drama.

2. Murok Jerami Tradition in Bangka Belitung

Murok Jerami or eating together is a traditional ceremony as a gratitude form for the good harvest in Namang Village, Central Bangka District, Bangka Belitung Island, yesterday, April 23.

The regional government planned to make the event as an annual local festival. “We will present the festival in more creative and innovative way without losing the cultural value,” said Central Bangka Tourism Agency head Zainal in Koba, Monday, April 23.

Zainal explained Mudok Jerami will not only feature Murok ritual (grinding the rice) but also followed by traditional art performance.

3. Religious Festival in Tangerang

South Tangerang administration has eagerly developed the local tourism destination in the various sector including religious festival ‘Festival Religi’. “This event aimed to preserve Betawi culture usually held by Lengkong people,” said the Tourism Agency head Djudianto in his office, Ciputat, South Tangerang, yesterday.

The festival features sermon conveyed by preachers, marawis (Islamic traditional music), martial art parade Silat, a culinary festival, traditional music gambang kromong and gambus. Other than Festival Religi, the city officials also held Culinary Festival in Situ Parigi, Pondokaren.
