TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - AirAsia airline has planned to open a direct flight between Silangit airport, North Tapanuli, North Sumatra and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“We will open a new route from Kuala Lumpur to Silangit since our data showed that there are more tourists came from Malaysia,” said AirAsia Co-Founder Datuk Kamarudin Meranun on Thursday, April 19.

Referring to the data of state-owned airway operator AP II, as many as 282,240 passengers have departed in Silangit airport throughout 2017, consisting of 1,063 international tourists and 282,177 domestic tourists.
The number has increased by 84.31 percent compared to 2016 which was amounted to 153,135 passengers from domestic only.
Other than Kuala Lumpur, AirAsia has considered opening the direct flight from India, China, and Thailand to Silangit airport. “However we have to see which destination will attract the most international tourist,” said Kamarudin.
