TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The human rights activist Ratna Sarumpaet stated that she will attend the first trial of musician Ahmad Dhani Prasetyo in the case of hate speech in South Jakarta District Court on Monday afternoon, April 16.
“Inshallah (if God wills) [I will come],” she told Tempo via a short message today.
According to Ratna, she has no reason to not attend the trial. “Perhaps it is good to witness [the trial] and the victim [Ahmad Dhani] is my friend,” she added.
Ratna Sarumpaet considered the case involving Ahmad Dhani as comedy show or locally known dagelan. “This [trial] is indeed a comedy show of democracy in today’s era.”

As reported earlier, Jack Boyd Lapian from BTP Network, now a Sec-Gen of Cyber Indonesia, reported Ahmad Dhani who allegedly violated the law on hate speech or the issue of race and societal groups (SARA) against former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja alias Ahok to the police on Thursday, March 9, 2017.
Ratna Sarumpaet and Ahmad Dhani actively involved in a movement against Ahok around the time of the 2017 gubernatorial elections which began with a massive demonstration of 212 on December 2, 2016.
Ahmad Dhani’s lawyer Hendarsam Marantoko confirmed that Ratna Sarumpaet planned to attend the hearing. “Yes, Kak Ratna will come [to the trial].”
