TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that the air traffic at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is set to rise in 2019 through two major projects that are currently carried out.
"The air traffic is currently at 81 airplanes per hour, we hoped that it will be 114 airplanes per hour," said Minister Budi on Sunday, April 15, 2018.
One of the two major projects is the east connection taxiway (ECT) that will connect the northern part of the runway to the southern part. The first phase of this development will focus on constructing a connecting runway between the north runway to the hangar used for airplane ramps near Terminal 3.
Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin predicted that the IDR 1.5 trillion project will be operational on June 2019.
"The ECT will be complete in April 2019, we'll then verify it and it will be operational by June 2019," said Awaluddin.
The second major construction project that is ongoing is the construction of Runway 3 and the Parallel Taxiway that is located in Soekarno-Hatta Airport's northern part, which is expected to be complete by September 2018.
The third runway will be 3,000 meters by 60 meters that will be able to accommodate large fuselage aircrafts such as the Boeing 777. Activating the third runway is claimed to be able to improve the air traffic that is currently measured at 72 flights per hour.
