Anies, Sandi Disagree on School Activities during Asian Games

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Deputy Sandiaga Uno have different views on temporarily dismissing school activities during the 2018 Asian Games from August 18 to September 2.
“No, not yet, we have yet [found the solution],” said Anies Baswedan at the Lebak Bulus MRT train depot in South Jakarta today, April 11.
Last week, Sandiaga Uno said that he will dismiss school activity in Jakarta during the 2018 Asian Games. The decision was made after meeting the chairman of the Asian Games organizing committee (Inasgoc) Erick Thohir.

Erick requested that schools in the vicinity of Asian Games venues and athlete dorms should be temporarily dismissed from any school activities.
“School holiday is shifted from December so that it will not bother their school activities,” said Sandiaga at City Hall on Friday, April 6.
However, Sandiaga’s decision was met with criticism by parents that see the school days-off would disrupt school curriculums that have been set. There were also suggestions of opening the opportunity for students to attend the sporting events that would add to the sport’s atmosphere, but only on Saturdays and Sundays.
Furthermore, according to Jakarta Education Agency deputy head Bowo Irianto, students will be given a 9-day school assignment if they do get days off during the 2018 Asian Games.
