TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Information System Security Research Center (CISSReC) demanded the government to raise question on data security and privacy on other social media platforms under Facebook such as Whatsapp and Instagram following the over the top (OTT) service provider data breach scandal.
CISSReC Chairman Pratama Persadha assumed that Facebook could access its users' private data including personal number and conversation in FB Messenger.
According to Pratama, similar illicit practice might occur on other platforms such as Whatsapp and Instagram since both are part of Facebook, which is widely used by Indonesian.
"This [data breach scandal] makes people question their data security," Pratama noted via short messages on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
Pratama argued that the issue of data security has long been criticized. In addition, Pratama stated that the government could use this momentum to take firm action against Facebook and urge the company to establish its server in Indonesia.
"It is a necessity for huge technology company including Facebook and Google to build their server in the country, moreover they have collected massive data from people," Pratama stated
