Sandiaga Uno Says Oil Spill in Pari Island Damages Tourism

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said he had received reports about the oil spill in Pari Island at Seribu Islands Regency from Regent Irmansyah.

"We will receive a more comprehensive report from the regent soon," Sandiaga said here on Monday, April 9. 

According to Sandiaga, the pollution due to the oil spill will ruin Pari Island's reputation as one of the regency's leading travel destinations. "This will tarnish Pari Island's appeal as an eco-tourism destination that is currently on the rise," he said.

On Sunday, crude oil spilled on the island's waters. "Exactly on the south coast of Pari Island," Seribu Islands' Resort Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Victor Siagian said in a written statement, April 8.

Victor said the police have visited the location. While conducting an investigation, the police collaborate with the Satpol PP and the Jakarta Public Infrastructure and Handling Officials (PPSU) to clean the oil spill.
