TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Police confirmed that they will summon all high-ranking officials from over the top (OTT) service provider Facebook Indonesia in relation to the recent user data leak. The decision was made after coordinating with the Communication and Informatics Ministry.
Chief of Public Information Division of the Indonesian National Police Headquarter Inspector General Setyo Wasisto explained that the Police will summon Facebook Indonesia CEO next week. The summoning will be conducted over the suspicion that Facebook Indonesia management was involved in the suspected data leak of one million users for certain purposes.
Setyo suspected that Facebook Indonesia has violated Communication and Informatics Minister’s Regulation No. 20 of 2016 on Personal Data Protection. Based on this suspicion, the investigation team from the Directorate for Cyber Crime of the National Police Crime Investigation Division (Bareskrim) will investigate Facebook Indonesia CEO.
"We have coordinated with the Communication and Informatics Ministry to immediately take action against data-stealing by Facebook. Next week, the Bareskrim will summon Facebook Indonesia to start the investigation," Setyo said on Saturday, April 7, 2018.
Previously, the Telecommunication and Informatics Ministry discovered that data of 1 million Facebook users have been leaked by the US-based OTT service provider. The government also planned to conduct an audit on Facebook Indonesia following the data leak.
The Telecommunication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara requested the police to investigate the case following Facebook’s explanation on the possible leak in a scandal involving a political consultant agency Cambridge Analytica.
