Kominfo Block Dozens of Million Sim Card Due to Late Registration

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) started the phase II blocking since April 2018. Kominfo has blocked dozens of millions of provider customers who have not re-registered their SIM cards.
Head of Kominfo Public Relations, Noor Iza, said it has blocked a total of 83 million. "The blocking has started since the end of the third week of March," Iza said on Wednesday, April 4.
Kominfo blocked 43 million Telkomsel numbers, 9 million XL, and 13 million Hutchison 3 Indonesia (H3I).
Meanwhile, for the provider of Sampoerna Telekomunikasi Indonesia, no number is blocked because it has switched to post-paid mode.
The government has closed the first chance of the prepaid card registration on February 28. If it is not done, the number will be blocked.
Starting on March 1, the customers who have not re-registered still have a chance until the total blocking. As of March 1, Kemkominfo will close the access of the outgoing call and SMS.
Then a month later, starting April 1, the operator will close the calling access and incoming SMS. Nevertheless, the owner of the number can still perform activities with data services.
The owner of the number can use the number again when re-register before May 1. The reason, on May 1 there will be the total blocking by closing the last access, the data service.
Based on the data of reconciliation as of March 12, the number of the registered prepaid SIM cards is reduced by 26 million. As of March 12, the prepaid numbers that successfully conducted the re-registration were 311 million or 311,303,429 numbers in the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration.
However, after matching the data, the amount is reduced to 26,340,492 to 284,962,937 or the difference of 8.5 percent.
