Ride-hailing giant Uber is selling its business in Southeast Asia to regional rival Grab in its latest withdrawal from a daunting overseas market. TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Management of ride-hailing app Grab opened its doors for former Uber drivers through an online registration.

Grab Indonesia Managing Director Ridzki Kramadibrata said that the online registration allows outer region drivers or company partners as it’s called, to be integrated into the company’s core system which would enable them to register outside of Jakarta.

“Every Uber driver can easily register as Grab partners online, without ever have to set foot at the Grab Driver Center,” said Ridzki on Tuesday, April 3.

He further explained that the terms of registering are by registering driver’s license number and police certificate (SKCK) that still applies. Candidates for drivers are also required to pass a safety-riding and driving test.

The registration period started on March 26 up to April 8 at five locations, including Cibubur, East Jakarta, Central Jakarta, Bekasi, Tangerang, and West Jakarta.
As previously reported, Uber was acquired by Grab on March 26, which effectively merged both companies in the Southeast Asian region.
