TEMPO.CO, JakartaWest Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan is exploring the opportunity to adopt the waste management technology of South Scania Waste Company (SYSAV) of Skane Region, Sweden.

"I think the waste management technology of SYSAV is applicable in West Java," Heryawan said in a statement received by ANTARA on Tuesday.

Heryawan led the government delegation for a working visit to Skane Region on Monday (March 26) to explore the cooperation opportunities in the fields of sustainable technology, waste-to-energy plant, transportation, and education.

As the cost to adopt Swedish technology is quite high, the West Java provincial government has considered sending intellectual talents to Sweden to learn how to develop such a technology in the country.

SYSAV has two subsidiaries, namely SYSAV Industry AB and SYSAV Utveckling AB.

SYSAV AB handles industrial and commercial waste and combustible household waste, which comes from cities and areas outside the municipality of the company`s owners.

SYSAV Utveckling AB and SYSAV Research & Development AB finance and run projects to develop and improve existing and new methods and technologies of waste management.

West Java provincial government`s Assistant for Economy and Development, Eddy Nasution, remarked that although the waste management technology is indeed expensive, the results are quite positive.

According to him, the adoption of such an advanced technology must be supported by building public awareness on how people should treat their garbage and providing more trashcans in public spaces.

"Our people still tend to throw garbage to the nearest location, and they rarely put the garbage in the trashcans," he revealed.
