TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On-demand services and ride-hailing company GoJek is set to announce its expansion to other ASEAN countries in the next weeks, according to an internal company e-mail quoted by Reuters.
GoJek plans to explore three more countries in Southeast Asia beginning mid-year, which is a follow up to the recent Uber’s exit from the Southeast Asian market.
This suggests that the consolidation between ride-hailing providers Uber and Grab has sparked pressure towards GoJek, which is currently supported by Google and Tencent.

GoJek CEO Nadiem Makarim described the consolidation between the two ride-hailing companies as an opportunity for his company to penetrate further into the market since basically there were fewer players in the market.
Makarim did not specify any particular country in his e-mail, but Go-Jek’s chief technology officer Ajey Gore previously said it aimed at setting up operations in the Philippines this year.
“Preparations are well underway and within the next few weeks our first new country launch will be announced,” the e-mail quoted Makarim as saying. Google, Temasek, and Meituan Dianping are some of GoJek’s investors.
