TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno assumed the foaming water in Kanal Banjir Timur (KBT) Marunda, Cilinding was caused by household laundry waste because many laundry services existed around the area.
"There are many laundry services and the waste is not managed well,” said Sandiaga Uno at Masjid At-Taqwa, Kebayoran Baru South Jakarta, Saturday, March 24.
Sandiaga Uno planned to inspect the laundry service entrepreneur to monitor the waste so that it can be reprocessed and did not dispose of carelessly. "We will try to discuss it, I will meet them on Wednesday," he said.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has received a report on foam waste in Banjir Kanal Timur, Marunda, North Jakarta. Anies stated the Environment Agency said there were two reasons for the abundance of foam in the waters.
First, he explained, the foam appears due to the rapids caused by differences in water level in the canal gate and the sea estuary. "So the water fell and stirred," said Anies in Kampung Sunter Jaya, North Jakarta, Saturday, March 24.
The second reason is, Anies said, the Environment Agency found a large volume of detergent waste which came from the households around the area. "From recent observation, no industrial area is found," he said.
Anies Baswedan claimed Jakarta city administration has prepared some steps to clean up the foam water at KBT Marunda area. He stated aside from eliminating the foam, the cleaning aimed to reduce water pollution. "If we just use a chemical tool to remove the foam, it might disappear on the photo, but it does not mean the pollution is gone," he added.
