TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 15 Airports under PT Angkasa Pura II management took part in Switch Off Earth Hour 2018 by turning off some lights on Saturday, March 24 starting at 20:30 local times for about one hour.
"This is aimed to educate the importance of preserving the environment," said Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Branch Office, M Suriawan Wakan in a written statement Sunday, March 25.
Suriawan stated the "Switch Off Earth Hour 2018" campaign is in line with the company's mission to save the energy. "Soekarno-Hatta Airport is a millennial airport which implemented the modern technology. Of course, we have to participate, but without affecting the flight schedule or airport operations," said Wakan.
Many points were directed as central points for the global campaign include the Soekarno-Hatta statue, the gate, the lights in the parking area, and even the ATC tower for several minutes.
Meanwhile, the 15 airports joining Earth Hour March 24 were Soekarno-Hatta, Tangerang; Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta; Kualanamu, Medan; Supadio, Pontianak; Minangkabau, Padang; Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II, Palembang; Sultan Syarif Kasim II, Pekanbaru; Husein Sastranegara, Bandung; Sultan Iskandarmuda, Banda Aceh; Raja Haji Fisabilillah, Tanjungpinang; Sultan Thaha, Jambi; Depati Amir, Pangkal Pinang; Silangit, North Tapanuli; Banyuwangi, Banyuwangi; and Kertajati, West Java.
