TEMPO.CO, Batam - The Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Rusdi Kirana stated many Indonesian citizens faced a death sentence in Malaysia. “There is a dozen of them,” said Rudi at the bilateral meeting of Indonesia and Malaysia immigration in Batam, Riau Islands, Wednesday, March 21.
Those waiting to be executed were convicted for narcotics and homicide cases. Rusdi claimed the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) has afforded legal assistance to the citizens involved in the legal problem in Malaysia. Thus far he kept trying to deprive the sentence.

Rusdi stated that based on Malaysia policy, only the king who has the right to grant a clemency thus the embassy is going through the path. “The Indonesian Government keep driving the legal protection, but we also have to honor the Malaysian law,” he said.
KBRI in Malaysia has continuously saved the lives of Indonesian citizen who had been handed down death sentence through the king’s grant in homicide cases. However, Rusdi argued, the clemency might be hard to reach for drug abuse.
As of date, many Indonesian citizens sentenced to death in Malaysia were imprisoned in several penitentiaries including Kajang prison.
