Google Doodle Features Father of National Film Usmar Ismail Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google Doodle covers a vintage photograph in reddish-brown color or sepia of Indonesian film figure Usmar Ismail. The picture presents a man wearing sunglasses with a video camera in front of three female mannequins as its background which referred to the movie Tiga Dara, one of his prominent works in Indonesian cinema.
Google doodle celebrates Usmar 97th birthday today. Usmar Ismail is one of the maestro films in the 1950-1960s, he is considered as a father of the Indonesian national film. Besides producing many hit movies, he also gives a big contribution to work in the field of drama scripts and poetry.
A man born in Bukittinggi, March 20, 1921 is a founder of Indonesian Film Company along with several other film entrepreneurs and used to be a chairman of the Yogyakarta Cultural Consultative (1946-1948), chairman of the Artist Union of Yogyakarta (1946-1948), chairman of the National Theater Academy, Jakarta (1955-1965), and chairman of the National Film Board (BMPN).
His prominent works were Harta Karun (based on the work of Moliere) in 1949, the film Tjitra (1949) from the drama story he had written which the title became the name of Indonesia Film Festival Award since then, Darah dan Doa (1950), Enam Djam di Djogja (1951), Lewat Djam Malam (1954), Lagi-Lagi Krisis (1955), Tiga Dara (1956), Tamu Agung (1955), Anak Perawan di Sarang Penjamun (1962 ), Anak-Anak Revolusi (1964), Ananda (1970).
Tiga Dara Movie which displayed in Google Doodle today along with the illustration of Usmar Ismail has been restored in digital forms as well as Lewat Djam Malam. The film was re-produced by director Nia Dinata under title Ini Kisah Tiga Dara.
