TEMPO.CO, Banyuwangi - Thousands of tourists from various regions visited Kampung Durian (Durian Village) in Sembawur Village, Songgon, Banyuwangi Regency, Sunday, March 18.

They are enthusiastic to taste the various durian presented in "Banyuwangi Durian Festival".

The visitors started coming to Kampung Durian since morning. The vehicles plat numbers show many of them coming from out of town. The traffic flow around the location jammed.

Most of them claim they want to taste the various durian, namely red durian, orange durian, rainbow durian, including the local durian from Banyuwangi with its typical taste.

"I’m curious about the rainbow durian," said Himawan Santoso, who came from Lumajang.

Himawan and the family came for the Banyuwangi durian. "Banyuwangi durian is better, and the festival’s concept which located in the middle of durian farm is unique."

The durian festival brought thousands of durian from the farm in the Songgon District. Songgon is one of the durian producing areas.

In the district, there are 465 hectares of land planted with about 4,000 durian trees.

"Let people know that Banyuwangi now has a durian center, Kampung Durian, not just producing durian, but visitors can also enjoy the durian in here," said Banyuwangi Regent, Abdullah Azwar Anas.

Kampung Durian presents many variants of durian. As durian yellow, rainbow, orange, red, even roasted durian. Durian Village location is only 30 minutes’ drive from Banyuwangi downtown.

Upon arrival at the gate, visitors must continue on foot along the 500-meter path. Along the way, the durian farm stretched wide.

There, the durian farmers provide wooden huts beside the road. Durian is served directly from the tree.

"The concept of Kampung Durian is interesting because tourists are invited directly to the farm, they are free to choose the type of durian they want," said Anas.

In addition, the atmosphere in Kampung Durian is cool, with a rural feeling, tourists can enjoy the durian under its tree while breathing the fresh air.
