BRI Accounts Breached; OJK Warns Public

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) reminded the public to be wary of data theft, which is what the authorities suspect happened to Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) customers in Kediri, East Java.

OJK chief Wimboh Santoso said in Banten, Wednesday, that cases of stolen funds often happen. He said the OJK will “fix it in the future.”

A number of BRI customers in Kediri reported that the balance in their savings account had been reduced. The customers said they did not make the transactions.

BRI Kediri branch head Dadi Kusnadi said the bank will investigate the case of the stolen funds. For the moment, he suspects skimming or data theft as the cause.

The chief of Ngadiluwih Police precinct, Shokib Dimyati, said that 16 BRI customers said they are missing some Rp2 Million to Rp5 million from their savings account.
