Communications Ministry Expert Staff Sees Light behind Hoax

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Legal expert staff of the Communication and Informatics Minister Henri Subiakto said that he is grateful for the numerous hoaxes that are currently circulating.
“Why? Because it made people pay attention. We finally have a chance to be invited by the media to explain about them,” said Henri at the Warung Daun today, March 10, in a discussion entitled ‘Who is responsible for data security’.

Henri argued that hoax would not become a topic of media discussion if it did not circulate, therefore, he assessed that there is a sense of prudence of having hoaxes.
“Since we announced the mandatory prepaid SIM card registration for the first time, there are still many hoaxes trying to counter and foil the government’s program,” said Henri.
He also sensed that the hoaxes circulated through Whatsapp group chats are structured and massive. The latest example was the hoax that urged people to change their family card (KK) after it has been used to register the SIM card.
“The information to change the KK number is officially a hoax,” said Director General of Population and Civil Registration Zudan Arid.
