TEMPO.CO, Berlin - Visitors of the 2018 ITB Berlin convention flocked the Indonesian pavilion to taste Indonesia’s various single origin coffee and the infamous traditional herbal beverage Jamu. The event is one of the world’s largest tourism convention in Messe, Berlin, held from March 7 to 11.
Visitors were mainly attracted to the coffee and jamu that have distinctive tastes compared to the beverages that are available throughout Europe.
Home Coffee Roastery barista Deryl Juniar said that the coffees presented in the exhibition come from five Indonesian regions. He chose to take with him batches of freshly roasted coffee beans from Aceh Gayo, Bali Kintamani, Flores Bajawa, Toraja Enrekang, and Java Ijen.
He decides to feature beans from those five regions because baristas and coffee lovers consider to have unique tastes.
Besides coffee, the Indonesian pavilion also offered traditional blends of Jamu beverages by Khair Zarrah such as Kunyit Asam, Wedang Jahe, and Betawi's Bir Pletok.
Jamu maker Retno Wulandari is also present at the 2018 ITB Berlin convention. Among many others, Retno offered regionally based jamu such as wedang pokak from Madura, Jakencruk from Wonosobo, Bir Mataram from Yogyakarta, and Sinom from Surabaya.
