TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  Mount Krakatoa in Lampung Province is now in the final round of the Volcano Cup 2018 after overcoming Mount Etna, Italy.

Mount Krakatoa will take on Mount Taupo of New Zealand in the final. Krakatoa is currently ahead with 58 percent of the total votes of 2,873 voters, while Taupo gains 42 percent. This poll will last until approximately 21.00 WIB.

This competition is organized by the world volcanologists, among them Dr. Janine Krippner. Through Janine Krippner account on social media Twitter, people are free to vote the winner.

Under her account named @janinekrippner, Janine wrote she aimed at raising public awareness of volcanic activities, hazards, risks, & preparedness around the globe by establishing the polling.

Located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, on August 27, 1883, Mount Krakatoa's eruption was heard up to Australia and Japan and claimed some 36,000 lives while drowning the beaches along Java and Sumatra.

Earlier, America, New Zealand, Mexico, Chile, Japan, Iceland, Italy, Philippines, and Guatemala participated in the 2018 Volcano Cup. Mount Merapi, Toba, and Gunung Agung also represented Indonesia in the competition.
