TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the law enforcement deputy of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Heru Winarko as Head of National Narcotics Agency (BNN) replacing Budi Waseso who retired. He has prepared a number of priority steps to be taken as the Head of BNN.

Firstly, Heru said he would study and optimize the job of a deputy in BNN in accordance with the Narcotics Law.

Second, Heru will make an external evaluation. He will improve the socialization and approach to communities and stakeholders to declare together that drugs are a common enemy.

Lastly, Heru will increase regional cooperation. “We will also increase cooperation in regional with the joint action and prevention with other countries,” he said.

Heru also said he would adopt the KPK policy in BNN, as the request of President Jokowi. According to Heru, BNN and KPK are certainly not much different. “There is prevention in BNN, there is also prevention in KPK, this is what we will try, we will share all the good things.”

According to Heru, the work to eradicate corruption and drugs is not much different. In general, the legal stages in handling cases of corruption and drugs are the same. "There are public complaints, investigations, investigations, etc. I think that is basic in law enforcement, of course," he said.

Heru Winarko was inaugurated as the new BNN head at the State Palace on Thursday, March 1. On that occasion, President Jokowi asked Heru to apply good governance and organization at BNN, as in KPK.
