TEMPO.CO, Mangupura - A total of 5,555 dancers from high school (SMA) and vocational high school (SMK) students in Badung Regency, Bali, managed to break the world record set by the Indonesia World Record Museum (MURI). The record was awarded by MURI for a colossal Kecak dance, in the tourist area of Berawa Beach, Tibubeneng, Badung.
"MURI appreciated this performance very much, it does not only deserve to be a national record, but a world record," MURI Manager Triyono said at the venue, Sunday night, February 25.
Triyono explained that the colossal Kecak dance set to be a world record because Kecak dance is a local culture and Balinese art that does not exist in any country. "Keep the spirit of work for Indonesia's national wealth," he said.
"We really appreciate this cultural art performance as it has successfully got MURI record, we thank all the people of Tibubeneng and the students in Badung involved in this activity," Head of Badung Tourism Office I Made Badra said.
Made stated that such performance is very helpful to attract tourists and realize the target of 7 million tourists in 2018. "In addition to having raised the name of Badung regency, this colossal Kecak dance is also attracting domestic and foreign tourists," he added.
In this record-breaking, 5,555 dancers form a formation on the edge of Loloan Yeh Poh, Berawa Beach area. They wore black-and-white cloths reminiscing as chess boards or known as saput poleng with red scarves.
As the sun began to set, they began to perform a very attractive Kecak Dance. The dancers also issued a very loud, harmonious voice commanded by a number of instructors.
Thousands of people crowded Berawa Beach to witness the world record-breaking. They seemed very entertained and enjoyed the colossal Kecak dance performed by students.
The performance of Kecak colossal dance is a series of Berawa Beach Art Festival 2018.
