Former KPU Commissioner: Jusuf Kalla Cannot be VP Anymore

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) Sigit Pamungkas said Vice President Jusuf Kalla could no longer be elected as a vice presidential candidate in the 2019 general election. The rules did not allow him to run again.
The rule is Law No. 7/2017 on General Election. In it, there is Article 169 (N) which explains the requirements to be a presidential and vice presidential candidate who is, has not served as president or vice president for two times in the same term of office.

Referring to the rule, Sigit said the possibility of Jusuf Kalla to be elected again as a candidate for vice president has been closed.
Jusuf Kalla ogled by the National Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) as a vice presidential candidate to return to accompany Joko Widodo in the 2019 presidential election.

Chairman of the PDIP's Central Leadership Council, Puan Maharani, said that her party is still reviewing the Constitution and the Law on General Elections.
Sigit Pamungkas said the public should no longer need to ask for the interpretation of the Constitutional Court because the existing rules are clear. He said the institute has even stated the interpretation of the term of office of regional leader.
