People take photos of a landslide in Brebes, Indonesia February 22, 2018, in this image obtained from social media. Survivors described a sudden roar as Thursday's landslide was unleashed, sweeping trees and everything else in its path toward the terraced rice fields below. "The hill above us looked like it was spinning down," said Watirah, a 53-year-old farmer from Pasir Panjang village, who with other villagers from the affected hamlet in Central Java's Brebes district tried to outrun the sliding earth. TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) used drones to examine landslide in Pasir Panjang Village, Salem District, Brebes, Central Java. Drones were flown to closely look at the geographical condition of the affected area and investigate the cause of the landslide that caused the death of seven residents.

“The crown of the landslide came from Gununglio hills with good land cover. It is a thick forest. It is intended for natural conservation. There are no residential areas on the upstream. Paddy fields are on the lower level of the hills,” BNPB spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said on Sunday (25/2).

Sutopo explained that the width of the crown reaches 120 meters. Meanwhile, the length is around 1 kilometer. The width of the landslide is pretty high with around 1.5 million meter cubic.

Sutopo went on by saying that the landslide was caused by the steep slope of the cliff. The condition is exacerbated by crumbly soil and marlstone on the lower part as sliders. This is further worsened by rainfall.

“Hills with such good cover can create landslide, let alone if the land has no vegetation, it will create landslide easily,” Sutopo added.
