Jokowi Proposes Perry Warjiyo as BI Governor Candidate to House

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Deputy Governor Perry Warjiyo stands as a strong candidate to replace BI Governor Agus Martowardojo to serve in the term of office 2018-2023.
“Perry Warjiyo is nominated by President Jokowi,” a source in the state administration told Tempo on Friday evening, Feb. 23.
Perry is chosen, the source mentioned, because he has extensive experience and has a long-standing career at the central bank. “Among other candidates, Perry is a senior official and has the most experience,” the source went on.

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo sent a letter containing the name of the candidate for BI Governor position serving in term 2018-2023 and for the candidate to undergo fit and proper test carried out by the House of Representatives. "The latter has been sent by the Secretary of State and the House has received it," the House’s Finance Commission member Misbakhun said.
Misbakhun is still reluctant to reveal the candidate proposed by the President. "It is confidential and only the Speaker (Bambang Soesatyo) knows," he said.
Presidential spokesman Johan Budi expressed that the letter was sent on Friday afternoon, but he refused to disclose the identity of the BI Governor candidate proposed by President Jokowi.
