TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government welcomes dialogues initiated by the Malaysian government to discuss the problems of migrant workers following the death of Adelina Jemira Sao on February 11. Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said he hopes the meeting will take place as soon as possible, so that both countries can immediately take preventive measures against cases of workers abuse.
"We want the Malaysian government to investigate employers who employ illegal workers and take immediate action, so that cases like those that happened to Adelina do not happen again," Arrmanatha said in Jakarta on Thursday, 22 February.

Arrmanatha said Indonesia has made several requests to the Malaysian government, including to take concrete steps in preventing cases of abuse and rights violation against Indonesian migrant workers (TKI), as well as to enhance protection of all Indonesian citizens in Malaysia, and the fulfillment of the rights of Indonesian workers.
The Ministry regularly conducts annual evaluations on the state cooperation and conducts bilateral talks with various countries, including Malaysia.
Arrmanatha said that in every meeting between President Joko Widodo and other heads of state, the government always requested for the protection of Indonesians working overseas.
