SAR Team Finds Two Victims of Brebes Landslides

TEMPO.CO, Brebes - Two dead bodies were found in Pasir Panjang village, Brebes district, Central Java, by the joint team of SAR while searching for the victims of the landslide that occurred on Thursday morning, February 22. The two victims were Wartinah, 46 years old and Kiswan aka Tewul (45).

Central Java Police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Post Officer Adj. Comr. Wijaya Jati said the two victims found had been taken to Puskesmas (community health center) Bentar for further treatment. "After previously handled by the DVI Team who opened a post on the road in Pasir Panjang village, about 400 meters from the main location of landslides," he said on Friday, February 23.

Wartinah was found at around 10:00 pm under a cliff near the rice fields of the local village, not far from Pangurudan River. While the other body was found in pieces named Kiswan at around 07:00 am at about one kilometer away from Jalan Lio Pasir Panjang Village, near the river flow.

The victims who were carried away by the landslide material was a pickup car driver who was passing through the place which the landslide hit. The disaster occurred in a production forest owned by Perhutani BKPH Salem Petak 26 RPH Babakan as the impact of heavy rain in the local area.

The landslide struck many residents working on agricultural land near the forest area. As of Friday morning, many people died in the incident, including Karsini (56), Casto (48), Wati (86), Rademi (50), Kiswan (42), and Caski (50). A total of four survivors are still being treated at Puskesmas Bentar, namely Turtik (38), Minarto (57), Watirah (50), and Mulyono (56). The victims were residents of Pasir Panjang Village, Brebes.

Based on data up to Friday, from a total of 16 victims buried by landslides material, 14 people survived and 8 people died.

Wijaya said DVI Central Java Post with its personnel is opened near the disaster site to accommodate people who lost family members. "The post establishment here as to help the victims’ families in looking for their family members because all the victims found will be reported in this post," he said.

Residents who lost family members due to the disaster, Wijaya added, are welcomed to report to the postal officer by bringing victim’s identity which will help the officer easier in identifying the victim. Officers will also provide information to the residents about the findings. "So that the corpse can be taken to be buried," he said.

Based on monitoring at the disaster site around 10:30 am, two excavators have arrived to support the SAR joint team, including from Basarnas Semarang, Basarnas Bandung, TNI, Polri, SAR Brebes, Brebes BPBD, volunteers, and local residents. One Basarnas Bandung helicopter with its officers has been flying over the natural disaster site to monitor the area.
